📄 Full Profile

Dr David Gutmann brings over 50 years of UK and international education experience to IHEART, spanning classroom teaching, curriculum leadership, school leadership, inspection, and exam board compliance — a career arc that gives him first-hand credibility at every level an institution needs to satisfy: the classroom, the curriculum, the governance structure, and the inspection itself.

He began as a school teacher in 1968, teaching in Zambia (1970–1972) and across eleven London primary and secondary schools before moving into curriculum leadership as Manager of the Barnet Local Education Authority (LEA) Curriculum Centre and Advisory Teacher (1981–1992). He went on to serve as Assistant Head Teacher for vocational education in a challenging North London secondary school (1992–1997), significantly improving student engagement and qualification pathways.

From 1997 to 2025, he inspected over 500 primary schools, secondary schools, and colleges nationwide for OFSTED, the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), and the British Accreditation Council (BAC), evaluating educational quality, leadership and management, and safeguarding. Concurrently, he served as a Compliance Auditor for Edexcel and as an Examiner and External Verifier for BTEC and City & Guilds, giving him direct, practical insight into vocational qualification integrity and exam board compliance requirements.

He currently serves as Principal of an ASIC-accredited private Further Education college in East London, overseeing academic strategy, regulatory compliance, and institutional growth, while providing strategic educational consultancy to schools and private FE/HE providers on inspection preparation, governance, and quality frameworks — and maintains selective, part-time classroom teaching.

He holds a PhD in Vocational Education from Middlesex University (2008), an MA in Education from the University of London (1972), and a BEd in Education and English (Hons) from the University of London/Middlesex University, Trent Park (1969). He has held Qualified Teacher Status since 1968.
